These homemade wooden blocks were made by my dad and are now being enjoyed by a second generation of grandchildren. Over the years, they’ve become a secret personality profile of sorts.
When given the same set of blocks, about half of our grandkids build the largest fence they can, creating a big enclosure where they place all their toys and treasures inside. The result often looks like a prison yard for escaped toys.
The other half carefully construct solid buildings complete with interior staircases, small courtyards, and interesting rooflines. Their creations often resemble an aerial view of medieval Europe.
